Happy 70th Bugs and Elmer

I love cartoons, so I couldn’t not mention that today is the 70th birthday of both Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd…as we know them today.  Of course they both went through an evolution years before becoming the characters we know and love, and both emerged together 70 years ago today, July 27th, 1940, in the Merrie Melodies cartoon titled A Wild Hare.  The colour version is below. (duh)

Directed by Tex Avery.  Bugs Bunny voiced by Mel Blanc.  Elmer Fudd voiced by Arthur Q. Bryan.  Both actors were uncredited at the time.  Just a point of interest, Mel Blanc went on to voice both characters as well as hundreds of others, and both are currently played by Billy West…who I happen to think is one of the great voice actors of our day.
